In a cozy house, atop Prazeres Hill, in Santa Teresa, one can taste the most talked about steamed chicken in the city. Owned by Paraíba native Severino Alves Sobrinho, known as Tino, and operated by his family, Tino's Bar is a house which specializes in cuisine from the Northeastern region of Brazil, open on weekends only and with only four tables.

The bar offers top notch food and cold beer for good prices as well as an incredible view of the city - including Christ the Redeemer, the Sugarloaf and the Guanabara Bay.

Opened by Tino in 2003 for his children Leandro, Bruno and Adriano, the house has an unique menu. "We did want to offer something other than the regular fried chicken", says Leandro, who switches, with his siblings, from kitchen to service work. "The traditional Northeastern recipe for steamed chicken is popular in the Rio de Janeiro Lowlands, but not among Rio de Janeiro city residents".

Besides chicken, the house specialty, the menu also includes pork rib, dried meat with manioc and Brazilian barbecue. Everything is prepared on the grill with a "secret" family seasoning. Rice, queijo coalho (a lightweight cheese produced in Northeastern Brazil), feijão tropeiro (Brazilian cattleman's beans) and molho à campanha (a Brazilian condiment made of tomato, onion, olive oil, vinegar, salt and bell pepper) are served along with the dish.

The bar started to attract the city residents outside the hill after the pacification program reached Santa Teresa in 2011. In 2013, the bar was the highlight of the Comer&Beber da Paz contest, organized by Veja Rio magazine with the support from the State Government to award commerce in the communities which went through pacification in five categories.

Bar do Tino won Best Recipe (with the steamed chicken), Best View and overall Winner, selected by a jury of famous Rio de Janeiro chefs.
