Master Robson

People - Engenheiro Paulo de Frontin

Raised in the musical environment in the city, Master Robson searched to evolve his percussions skills training in great samba schools in Rio. And came back to Engenheiro Paulo de Frontin to start his own rhythm orchestra: in 2006, he created the Som & Arte Percussion Band to play and teach percussion in town.

With local government's help, Robson bought the instruments to set up a band and transmit his experience as a percussionist. Surdos, caixa, repique, chocalho, tambourine, cuíca, agogô, reco-reco, pandeiro, and prato are the instruments used by the band-school comprised by 14 musicians, between 18 and 25 years of age. They can play any beat. The group performs in the Carnival in town and in several other cities in Southern Rio de Janeiro state.

Master Robson began to enjoy music when he was a little boy. Son of Master Odilon, known as the "Velvet of the Trombone", when he was a child, he used to go to 28 de Fevereiro Band rehearsals that his father conducted and developed what it is called a "musical ear". He went to Rio and studied during eight years in the percussion school of União da Ilha Samba School. After that, he joined the Army, where he was a bugle player for eight years. After that, in no time, he started playing in several large samba schools, like Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel and Vila Isabel. At the age of 44 and having some dreams fulfilled, he now prepares his son, Andrei Vinícius, 22, to replace him at Som & Arte.
