Historical Farms

Cultural Heritage - São José de Ubá

The region of São José de Ubá has stately farms. Recreio Farm, on the banks of the highway that connects the cities of Santo Antônio de Pádua and Bom Jesus do Itabapoana, includes three different buildings used as the employees' quarters, a corral, a barn, and a main house, built in the 19th century. It features a cobbled footpath and its main economic activity is dairy farming.

Another imposing property is the Properidade Farm, ten kilometers from downtown São José de Ubá. Founded in 1900, in an area of ??100 bushels, cattle and boars are raised; corn, tomatoes, beans, grapes, and vegetables in general are cultivated. Trails on old carriage roads for coffee transportation can be found. The main house, well maintained, was built in wood and masonry with clay roof. The two farms are not open to the public.
