Farid Habib

People - Duas Barras


The poet and musician Farid Habib was born in Duas Barras, in 1927, son of a Lebanese family of 13 siblings who arrived in Brazil in 1914. Habib has 300 songs composed, 12 independent CDs recorded, and six books written on the history of Duas Barras.

He also collects documents and photos of the city in a total of more than 6,000 items. He composed his first song at the age of 13, the samba "Ai meu Deus que saudade". He was a musician in the 8 de Dezembro Music Society, from 1941 to 1945, and years later became the president of the band. In 1959, he composed the city anthem. He was honored by Samba Schools Unidos dos Morro (2008) and GRESSUM - Monnerat (2010), both from Duas Barras.
