The library was established in 1958 and it has a collection of about 25,000 books of all genres. Because of its central location, it ends up being a meeting point used by students and people of all ages, with an average of 300 loans per month. Thanks to partnerships with entities such as the Department of Social Promotion, Senac, Banco do Brasil, among others, it offers a fixed schedule of workshops and different courses that last all year.

An annex hall offers lessons on storytelling, chess, Braille and even workshops for caregivers of daycare centers. There are also regular exhibitions held there on big names of national history - the most recent dealt with the story of João Candido, sailor responsible for the "Revolta da Chibata" in 1910. It also has a computer section with seven computers connected to the internet for public use.
