Founded seven years ago by the Pimpolhos da Grande Rio Children Samba School, the Escola do Carnaval (Carnival School) is a center for research, reflection, and improvement of the Carnival culture in Brazil. The artistic and educational programs offered aim at training professionals in management, design, and production of Carnival parades.

In recent years, over 200 people have participated in the workshops and most of them are currently employed. The school courses have been sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Eletrobras (a major Brazilian electric utilities company), and Furnas (a regional power utility and a major subsidiary of Eletrobras).


In 2012, the school was contemplated in Rio de Janeiro city administration's announcement on artistic and cultural workshops for conducting classes on design and production at the Centro de Artes Calouste Gulbenkian (Calouste Gulbenkian Arts Center), in Rio.
