This building from 1888 was home to the Franco-Brésilien Casino and Theater. In 1904, it was bought by entrepreneur Pascoal Segreto and named Carlos Gomes Theater. Throughout its history, the building went through two fires and was rebuilt.

Bought by the Rio do Janeiro city administration in 1993, the Carlos Gomes Theater was reformed and today it has a main hall and the Guarani Grand Hall which hosts music concerts. The theater has 685 seats.
