The building of the former Bhering chocolate manufacture, at Saúde neighborhood, now hosts studios of photographers, artists and craftspeople which are open to the public for visitation.

Former machinery and structure are inspiration material to creative artists and made part of their artwork. There are 50 artists and 20 small businesses at the building, which united themselves to find a solution for the financial burdens of maintaining their own studios for professional or artistic production.

Together, they transformed the former chocolate manufacture and made an art center out of it. Sculpture, painting, literature, photography, video making, performance groups, arts installations, restoration work, drawing, multimedia work and many other crafts can be found at the building, in a rich combination of ideas and styles. After a difficult period, when the artists had just arrived and were notified they needed to leave the place (which was auctioned for 3.2 million Reais to a real estate company) the Rio de Janeiro City Administration signed, in July 2012, the documents to have the building listed and expropriated.

The Bhering Building is part of the Circular ArtRio, a bus line created for the ArtRio contemporary art fair (which occurs in September) so that people could visit interesting visual art locations and institutions in the city during the fair. The repurposed building also has a Facebook profile.
